Better days are coming.  Warmer temperatures are just around the corner.

I have made this little sketch in honor of my brother’s pass time.  He is a motorcycle enthusiast. In the old days, several neighbors shared the same telephone line and could join in on a conversation or at least listen in. It could be problematic.  If someone needed to make a quick call to someone, the already “in-progress” conversation of a neighbor could delay their call, often irritating and impeding progress for the day.  The wait could be seemingly endless.

When single lines became available, folks could pay a higher rate to the phone company for a private line.  Private lines became for the norm over the years.  Now a party line is just a memory.

In the cold winter, what better time can there be than to make a call or send a card to a friend.  You may send this little card with it’s “Party Line” memories to a friend.  It is available in our store.

My order will come soon.  Even though the landscape is overrun with drifts of snow, spring will come sooner than we think.  So to avoid the hurried “trip to the store” to buy my seed, I plan to buy them from the comfort of my home by catalog.

With spring only three short weeks away, I thought you might enjoy setting your eyes on a Shamrock,  a tender plant well-known for its green beauty.  Not so commonly known are the delicate pink blooms that grace this plant.  The green and pink together cheer the heart as we await the grand awakening of our surroundings with the beginning of springtime.

That rock reminds me of the unmovable foundation that we can find by putting down our roots and trusting in Jesus Christ, who came to be our Savior.  The one who seeks shelter from the storms in his life can depend on Him.

This time of the year has seasonal tasks that keep me busy.  I am delighted that so much of my cooking has already been done in the summer and fall when the produce was fresh. Though cooking still takes attention, I don’t have to spend as much time traveling to the grocery store since there is a lot of food on my shelf.

I have items like dried parsley, basil and sage.  My pie cupboard holds black cherry and choke cherry jelly.  Strawberry syrup and currant jelly are two favorites we enjoy.  Grape jam and apple jelly await the time when I will choose them for my table.  Old faithful recipes like Best-in-the-World Dill Pickles and homemade Tomato Soup, apple pie filling and salsa perch on the shelves ready for  the taking.  Cooked, tender chicken rests in pint and quart jars.

In celebration of the art food preservation, we are featuring the card named, “Preserves.”  It may motivate you to think about how you can grow some food that the Lord provides for you in your garden or in the orchard. Perhaps this scene from the past may encourage and warm the heart of a friend who recalls the good old days of preserving foods for the winter.
